Stepping On is a falls prevention program developed right here in Australia and now run in communities across the country. It’s for older adults who are living independently and want to feel steadier on their feet — whether they’ve had a fall before, or simply want to avoid one.
Small groups meet once a week for seven weeks, for a friendly two-hour session covering gentle exercise and practical, everyday advice. A trained facilitator runs each session, often joined by guest speakers such as physiotherapists, pharmacists and vision specialists. About two months after the program finishes, the group comes back together for a booster session to keep new habits going strong.
Each week focuses on a different piece of the puzzle — building a well-rounded toolkit for staying safe and independent.
Gentle, guided exercises that build steadiness and confidence in everyday movement.
Simple, practical ways to make your home safer, room by room.
How what you wear and see affects your risk of falling, and what to check.
How some medicines can affect your balance, and what to ask your GP or pharmacist.
Confidence for footpaths, stairs, public transport and community outings.
What to do if you fall, and how to get back on your feet, physically and emotionally.
Whether you’re considering it for yourself or a loved one, here’s what to know.
Not suitable for people with significant memory difficulties, certain progressive neurological conditions, or full reliance on a walking frame — our team can suggest other options if this is the case.
You can register interest on behalf of someone else — we’re happy to talk it through with you first.
