Important Support at Home Update – Essential Personal Care Just Got More Accessible
We’re sharing some welcome news that directly affects many of our aged care clients and their families.
The Federal Government has announced a meaningful change to the Support at Home program, and we want to make sure you hear about it clearly and promptly.
What’s changing — and when
From 1 October 2026, co-payments will no longer apply to essential personal care services delivered under the Support at Home program. This means services like showering, dressing and continence care will be provided without any out-of-pocket contribution from the person receiving care.
These services will be reclassified under the clinical care category — recognising what we’ve always believed: that personal care isn’t a luxury. It’s fundamental to a person’s health, dignity and wellbeing.
From 1 October 2026 — no co-payments for:
- Showering
- Dressing
- Continence care
Why this matters
At Skilled Health, we’ve seen first-hand how cost pressures can lead people to reduce or delay the support they genuinely need. No one should have to choose between their budget and their basic care. This change reflects exactly the kind of policy shift that makes a real difference to quality of life at home.
What stays the same
Co-payments will still apply to some services under the everyday living and independence support categories – such as social activities, transport and domestic assistance. If you’re unsure how your current support plan is affected, please speak to your Care Advisor.
What this means for you or your loved one
If you or someone you care for is currently receiving – or planning for – aged care support at home, this change may reduce your costs and give you greater confidence in accessing the care you need, when you need it.
We’ll continue to keep our clients, families and referral partners updated as further details are confirmed by the Department of Health and Aged Care.
